SpeedLink takes delivery of 6 new Duplexs
SpeedLink recently placed a order with Astlom for 6 new SpeedLink Duplex trains. The trains consist of 8 double deck coaches just like the (SD) and 2 power units, one at either end.

The order was placed to increase capicity on our high-speed services between Washington, Baltimore, Wilmington and Philadelphia and will replace the existing USA stars.

They have a top speed of 186mph and can carry upto 510 people, each unit has a cafe area where passengers can enjoy the open space. There is also wheel chair spaces on each train and a dissabled toilet.

The units are expected to begin appearing in service during July, with all units up and running before August. The USA stars will begin to be refurbished and will appear as pullman trains later this year.

SpeedLink plan to expand timetable again
SpeedLink is looking into expanding its services with a stopping train between Wilmington and Philadelphia stopping at all the suburban stations between the two cities.

To operate this new service SpeedLink will order two SSMK2 units (MK2 for short) from Siemens/ADtranz. These units will have low floors for easy acess at the smaller stations with a bright and airy interiour. For peoples protection CCTV will be fitted in each coach.

The service will run houry at first for most of the day with an expected journry time of approximatly 30minutes end to end. SpeedLink hopes to have the service operating before August.

Other Plans
SpeedLink also plans on rebuilding the SUS's into express pulman trains for faster services between Washington and Philadelphia with 3 course meals been served during the journy.

A possibiliy of extending some services through to New York is also been looked at by SpeedLink which could use the surplus SUS for this particular service because of their high comfort and high top speed.
